MathJax-Latex WordPress Plugin

The Knowledgeblog team have developed a plugin for WordPress that allows the easy inclusion of mathematical equations in blogposts. It leverages the MathJax Javascript library to produce scalable, accessible, attractive graphical equations from standard LaTeX syntax embedded in posts.

You can download the latest version of the plugin: Version 0.2 []

To install the plugin, unzip the downloaded archive in your $wordpress/wp-content/plugins directory, download the MathJax javascript library ( and put it in the mathjax-latex directory ($wordpress/wp-content/plugins/mathjax-latex/MathJax).

Now go to the plugin administration section of your WordPress dashboard, and click the ‘Activate’ link under the entry for mathjax-latex.

The mathjax-latex settings page lets you configure how the plugin works.

  • The ‘force load’ option means all MathJax syntax will be interpreted on every page of your blog, without the need for the shortcode.
  • You can set which MathJax syntax
  • \[E=mc^2\]
  • \(E=mc^2\)
  • $latex E=mc^2$ (if wp-latex syntax is switched on)

If the ‘force load’ option is turned on, then the shortcode is not required, but the will switch of syntax interpretation. Use of the shortcode does not require the shortcode.

I wonder if it has possibility to work with packages like amsmath in WordPress, which gives same extra features in LaTeX?

Our plugin uses the MathJax to render. I believe this supports amsmath.
